The 30 Most Influential People of Bitcoin [InsideBitcoins]

NEW YORK (InsideBitcoins) — The bitcoin community is tiny. In fact, it’s terribly small. If it were a country,Rhode Island could beat the crap out of it in a war. That’s how small it is. But vocal. It is not afraid to voice its opinion, that’s for sure.

In an effort to identify the most prominent voices of the virtual currency, the Digital Currency Council compiled a list of 500 of what it says are the most influential Bitcoiners on social media. Comprised of investors, entrepreneurs, cryptographers, journalists, and other cryptocurrency professionals, the list was whittled down to the top 30, based on Peer Index, Klout Scores, and Twitter followers.

“In Bitcoin, there is nothing more compelling than clearly conveying the facts.”

“These data points reflect a variety of factors including social footprint, engagement frequency, amplification, and citations by influential writers along with other related items. Weights were then assigned to each factor to derive a final data-driven list of the 30 most influential Bitcoiners on social media,” the DCC says.

There are many familiar faces – it’s likely most of these folks know each other – but the list is unranked. David Berger, CEO of the DCC, says that’s intentional.

30MostInfluential“We did not put the list in order, as the differences in scores amongst the top 30 is so minimal,” Berger, told Inside Bitcoins. “Instead of ranking them, we thought it better to highlight them all for their influence on social media. The 30 most influential Bitcoiners on social media includes many household names, as well as many others that have been influential within their own social networks but may not be as well known.”

Berger says the DCC created the list to encourage others to get educated and share the facts about Bitcoin with their peers.

“In Bitcoin, there is nothing more compelling than clearly conveying the facts,” he said. “The Bitcoin community, when it communicates a consistent message backed by verifiable facts, can counter the voices of the naysayers spouting myths to protect their own position in the status quo.”

There are only two women on the list, a fact that doesn’t escape Berger’s notice.

“I would certainly like to see more women raising their voices to educate their peers about Bitcoin,” he admits. “We’re fortunate to count some leading female professionals in our membership – including attorneys Amor Sexton, Christine Dahl, and Pamela Morgan, among others.”

And so – again, in no particular order – here are the “30 Most Influential Bitcoiners”:
