Here Are The Five Best Places To Get Your Daily Bitcoin Scoop [Bidnessetc]

Bitcoin has benefitted from a free exchange of ideas since Satoshi Nakamoto’s white paper was first released onto the cryptography message board Metzdowd.com in late 2008. Community engagement has been and continues to be central to Bitcoin’s ethos. But that engagement has taken different forms as the overall community itself has grown, diversified and matured.

Bitcoin is no longer a group of cryptographers trolling esoteric message boards. It has attracted people from all walks of life. Below is a primer on where to go if you’re on the hunt for the social strongholds of the bitcoin ecosystem.

Reddit

The largest of the online Bitcoin communities by far, Reddit – specifically the Bitcoin sub-reddit – is a feast of information, some accurate, some biased, some gossip, some veering on the slanderous. But it’s all there and the community is quick to lend their reactions to any piece of information thrown at it. A “pack of wolves” mentality ensures that misinformation or biased reporting is chewed up and spat out.The anonymity of Reddit makes for some interesting reading, but also calls into question the motivations of the participants and lessens the impact of any single commentator. Without a doubt, certain profiles have built credibility over time, but that judgment is difficult to make for a newcomer.

BitcoinTalk.org

BitcoinTalk.org is where the “Bitcoin Celebrities” gathered during the early years. It’s more user-friendly than Reddit and allows for certain users to build and grow their online brand.

The quality of discussion fluctuates widely, but it is approachable and there is certainly ample content for the casual observer of Bitcoin. It’s a raw platform and usage seems to have tapered off over the past year as more refined platforms have come into the fold.

ZapChain

The concept is simple: ask a question, get an answer. ZapChain is quickly gaining traction in the Bitcoin community for its engaging style and friendly atmosphere. Many of the well-known personalities have shifted from BitcoinTalk over to ZapChain, which measures influence in unique “gamified” ways and now integrates the monetary incentive of tipping into the mix.

Digital Currency Council (DCC)

The DCC is a community of professionals where some of the more serious Bitcoin-related issues are discussed. Where the Bitcoin Reddit is staffed by anonymous commentators, the DCC’s members are wholly transparent about who they are, what they do and what their interest in Bitcoin is.

The community works together both online and offline to tackle the challenging questions facing the Bitcoin community. Things like AML compliance, tax reporting, and the reputational issues of digital currencies. The DCC also offers users courses that explain Bitcoin, so newcomers can quickly and efficiently get up to speed on the subject.

Twitter

Given its sheer size, you can find almost everyone in Bitcoin on Twitter. From Marc Andreessen’s famed tweetstorms, to the key Bitcoin media outlets like CoinDesk and CoinTelegraph, there is no shortage of intelligent (and unintelligent – it is Twitter after all) conversation to tap into. Here are a few Bitcoin-focused twitter accounts to get you started.

As Bitcoin adoption increases and it becomes more integrated into our day-to-day lives, there is no question it will become integrated into our online communities.

Today there are at least five unique communities for Bitcoiners to call home. Newcomers to the world of Bitcoin should explore them all and settle into the one(s) where they feel most comfortable.
